I recently came across a free marketing ebook that was actually useful. I must have been the victim of cleverly wrought copy because I downloaded it, read it, and can honestly say it's actually worth reading...

This book is a good example of how offering a free ebook is a great way to make money online.

The author's name is Stewart Hutton of http://PracticalSelling.com/pdcb and his free ebook is called Practical Dot Com Business. He also runs a weekly newsletter to complement the ebook.

The ebook is targeted at those either starting out or short on inspiration. It covers things from the basic conception of an idea, right up to search engine optimization and creating your own products.

So, if this man just gives away his useful info in an ebook for free, where does his profit come from?

Good question, with a rather clever answer - his affiliate links are spread throughout the ebook, plus every person who downloads his free ebook is subscribed to his weekly newsletter.

He builds up credibility by offering USEFUL free information that people can browse at their leisure, and use to their own advantage.

After he has earned their trust, he recommends a quality product that he believes in, so they're much more likely to make a sale.
